Online English Therapy in Hong Kong

Hong Kong

Have the courage to use your own understanding. Have the courage to let the unconscious speak. Have the courage to develop beyond the self.

Living in Hong Kong offers extraordinary opportunities, but the pace, pressure, and cultural displacement often leave us stuck in habitual ways of thinking, feeling, and being.

This practice is grounded in Dare Wisdom: a commitment to healing through transformative learning. We don’t just manage symptoms; we engage with three distinct dimensions of the human experience to foster genuine growth:

  1. Critical Self-Inquiry (The Western philosophical tradition): Challenging unexamined beliefs.
  2. Deep Emotional Connection (The Western psychotherapy tradition): Letting the unconscious speak through painful affect.
  3. Transpersonal Growth (Global contemplative traditions): Moving beyond attachment to the self.

If you are an English-speaking expat or professional seeking therapy that respects your intellect while honoring the depths of your emotional and spiritual life, you are in the right place.

Sessions are HK$780 (≈€90), conducted online via secure video, with no GP referral required.

The Three Calls to Wisdom: My Approach

My practice is not defined by a single technique, but by a willingness to answer three different calls to wisdom. Depending on what you need, we engage one, two, or all three:

1. Have the Courage to Use Your Own Understanding Rooted in Western philosophy and science. We examine the logical structures of your life. What habits of thought are holding you back? Where are you relying on unexamined assumptions? We use critical thinking and evidence-based inquiry to dismantle cognitive distortions and rebuild a clearer, more rational way of navigating the world.

2. Have the Courage to Let the Unconscious Speak Rooted in modern psychotherapy. Reason has limits. Often, the things that hurt us most lie beneath the surface—in patterns we repeat, emotions we suppress, and somatic tensions we ignore. We create a safe space for the unconscious to emerge, working through painful affect and connecting with parts of yourself that have been silenced.

3. Have the Courage to Develop Beyond the Self Rooted in contemplative traditions. Healing often requires us to loosen our grip on the ego—the rigid idea of who we think we “should” be. Drawing on insights from stoic resilience and Buddhist non-attachment, we explore how the pursuit of wisdom is often blocked by an attachment to a fixed identity. This is about expanding capacity, creativity, and self-actualisation.

Learning to Heal, Healing to Learn In this practice, therapy is not merely a repair job. It is transformative education. We integrate new information as felt, embodied knowledge. By discovering and exercising new capacities—new ways of thinking, feeling, and acting—you unlock agency, growth, and resilience that lasts long after the sessions end.

Why Expats and Professionals Seek Therapy Here

Hong Kong attracts ambitious people, but the same traits that get you here can become blind spots when they go unchecked. The “Three Calls” address the specific fractures that occur in high-pressure, cross-cultural environments:

  • Burnout and Overthinking: You rely on reason to solve emotional problems until the system collapses. Understanding the science behind burnout and its five distinct profiles can help you identify your specific state. [Read our guide on Expat Mental Health, Burnout, and Adjustment]
  • Cultural Displacement: The friction between Western logic and Eastern context creates a split self. We help you integrate these fragments into a coherent identity.
  • Identity and Belonging: If your “self” feels like a performance, the question “Where do I belong?” becomes unanswerable. We work to develop beyond the performative self toward authentic existence.
  • Relationship Strain: When we are attached to how we think we should be loved, we miss how love is actually happening. We open space for the unconscious to reshape connection.
  • Existential Questions: Success doesn’t inoculate against meaninglessness. We engage the philosophical and contemplative dimensions of your crisis to find a deeper footing.

Are you a licensed psychologist in Hong Kong?

No, and it’s worth being clear about what that means. Hong Kong doesn’t currently operate a statutory licensing scheme for counsellors or psychotherapists the way it does for some other health professions, so there’s no single credential to hold or lack here in the way there is, say, for a registered clinical psychologist.

Titles for therapists vary internationally. In France, where I am based, my regulated title is psychopraticien. In English-speaking contexts, I describe my work as psychotherapy and refer to myself as a psychotherapist. I hold a Bachelor of Integrative Psychotherapy, trained under senior clinical supervisors in psychology and psychiatry, and maintain ongoing peer supervision.

If you have questions about my credentials, training, or how that compares to other options in Hong Kong, I’m happy to talk through it before you book.

Is my session confidential? Absolutely. Encrypted video, secure note-keeping, and discrete billing. Nothing is shared without your explicit written consent.

What if we’re not a good fit? If after the first session you feel my approach isn’t right, I will refer you to alternatives in Hong Kong or elsewhere. Fit is essential for this kind of deep work.
